A question about the low blood sugar levels happening while taking diabetes medicine?
I’m taking the medicine to treat my diabetes type2 as the doctor’s prescription but sometimes having the symptoms of dropped blood sugar and this make me tired, worried …
What does it happen and how to overcome?
Tks for answering this question.
If you are taking a medication called Glyburide (Micronase) or Glipizide (Glucotrol), they will lower your blood sugars
You may want to try another diabetes medication, such as Metformin. It will not lower your blood sugar
You should test your blood sugar level before taking your medication. If it is low then you should eat before taking your medication. Having high insulin levels means that you will have low blood sugar levels. This is a very dangerous condition and proper treatment is taking a sugary substance to help raise your blood sugar like hard candy, sweet fruit juices, or even a packet of sugar that you let it disolve in your mouth. Testing the blood sugar level frequently is the key to understanding what you have to do to keep it level.
Good luck,
Speak with your doctor.
You will probably need to reduce your medication.
Eat a low glycemic index diet to help reduce quick highs and lows.
See a dietitian or nutritionist for advice.
When your sugar is low have some thing like sugary soda to bring it up quickly, but then a banana or fruit to keep it up at a lower speed
make sure you are taking your medication after you have checked your BS and just before u eat. sometimes you’ll drop t low because u were low to begin with!
When you take medicine for diabeties, of coure your blood sugar will drop, thats what the medicine is for and it’s normal. Drink orange juice or apple juice after you take medicine if you haven’t eaten any thing. But usual you are suppose to take your medicine before you eat. This balances it out. My mother had the same problem.
