Lorena Drago, MS, RD, CDN, CDE, Senior Associate Director, Lincoln Hospital, Forest Hills, NY is well known for her expertise in teaching us how to make teaching materials culturally relevant. At AADE she co-presented a program titled Type 2 Diabetes Prevention in Minority Youth—And How to Reverse the Trend. This program shared information about the American Diabetes Associations efforts in preventing type 2 diabetes in African American and Hispanic American youth. Peers are their greatest influence. NYC CCE has youth programs that address heath, nutrition & leadership roles. We need to work together w/our neighboring agencies to get the information out; to focus on specific objectives; be clear with how we create these messages that will resonate with our youth; to look @ neighborhood’s foodies that house themselves there where there is financial instability, e.g. Jamaica, Queens.
