Can a person with a healthy weight still develop type 2 diabetes?

I am 5’4 and weigh around 110 pounds. I’m thin but my diet sucks…lots of soda, candy, and fried stuff. Could I develop type 2 diabetes even though I am not overweight?

yes if it runs in the family , but maintaining a healthy weight and diet is key to at least warding it off for a while

Due to the large number of myths surrounding the disease there are a number of things that are false about diabetes that people think are true.

Thin people and fit people CAN and DO get diabetes.
People who eat a healthy diet can and do get diabetes.
Some people never exercise and eat a poor diet and never get diabetes.

Diabetes is normally genetic. This means there is normally a family history of the disease, poor diet and lack of exercise may increase the risk but they are not causes of diabetes.

So to answer your question yes you may develop type 2 diabetes but normally you would already have/had a family member who has the disease.
