Can a Person With Type 2 Diabetes Enter Into The Military?
I have been wondering this for a very long while, since I have type 2 diabetes. Almost all my friends are joining the military, and I think I may want to too, just because of the benefits, and to pay for college.
All the questions on here are about type 1 (insulin dependent) and I haven’t found any answers for type 2 (diet controlled).

No, I am not on Insulin, my diabetes is controlled with diet, and I live as if I do not have diabetes.

The answer is no. I am retired military, and also diabetic. The medicines and the problems you encounter would not make your service worthwhile to the military. To join just because your buddies are, and for the education, is not good reasons to join. Do not forget going to war and possibly dieing in Iraq or Iran etc, etc,
Unfortunately, any type of chronic disease is grounds for disqualification from the armed forces. While your diabetes may be under good control, it will not go away. The military will look at you as a liability and will not accept you.
The military was something I thought about also…some years ago…but since I am a type 1, I knew they would not take me and never bothered to apply.
Diabetes has affected me professionally. No matter how hard I try not to let it hold me back, it does. For instance, as an EMT, I will not become a firefighter because of restrictions involving getting a CDL (required to drive a fire truck). I can drive an ambulance and I do.
I wish you luck in whatever path you choose. Just remember…there are a lot of diseases that can take your life. Diabetes can take over your life. Good luck.
