the best diet ive tried and works to regulate my sugar is a low carb no sugar diet. which the easiest way to think of it is stay away from anything that has white in it. like sugar, flour, pastas, potatoes, white rice, (all my favs) look at all the carbs in a food before you eat it you want to stay under 20 carbs per meal. i was diagnosed 1 year ago and my sugar was 700 sense then i have kept my sugar down below 120 every day with this in mind. just remember you can eat most all theese things in small amounts if you have a strong craving for it. but the thing is with carbs it raises your sugar for a longer period than say a candy bar which only will spike it for a little while. i hope this helps you! good luck i also lost 30+ lbs by doing this diet
Your Endocrinologist should have referred you to a dietitian.
Take a diabetes ed class and see a dietitian.
Subscribe to diabetes magazines and even join a support group.

One diabetic strategy is to consume very small low-carbohydrate portions about every hour. Calculate approximate daily calorie consumption for weight loss objectives.

Wal-Mart sells a 16-ounce bag of World Kitchens beef jerky for around $8.50 . . cut up and weigh 1-ounce portions. Jennie-O turkey franks (cut up and boil to reduce fat and sodium). String cheese sticks. 1-ounce portions of peanuts. Sam’s caffeine-free diet cola has zero carbs, calories, and sodium. Blend sugar-free pudding powder with water and low-carb (4 grams) vanilla yogurt instead of milk for 1/2 cup servings. For a sugar-free slushie, blend around 1-1/4 cup A&W diet root beer, 1/2 cup vanilla pudding, and 6 ice cubes. Prepare 1/2 cup portions of sugar-free jello in 1-cup containers, and top with a 1/4 inch layer of vanilla pudding when served. Chocolate pudding makes good fudge pops.

Might also consider taking a daily multi-vitamin, and a 81mg aspirin (if not adverse).
Refined carbohydrates are the things to limit. I would check with the county health department dietician to get a better picture of what needs to be watched.
Most doctors will suggest that you eat small meals throughout the day. None of your meals, or snacks should be more than three hours a part. Eating smaller meals more frequently will help regulate your blood sugar. For some women, avoiding carbohydrates in the morning is helpful. Starting the day with proteins only will help keep your blood sugar down
