Diabetes question?
What 3 questions could I ask that relate DIABETES with SOCIETY?
It’s for my project.
I already have one – What are the implications of diabetes to society?
Any more would be much appreciated. I have brain freeze.
Diabetes HAS to relate to society in the questions!
Why don’t diabetic people not get it??? Mac Donalds???
Bad idea
How long will society last not paying attention to the health consequences of diabetes?
Diabetes in terms of the idea of universal healthcare would be an interesting topic. ie, would universal healthcare help diabetics take better care of themselves and what the costs would be for preventative care versus care once the disease has caused severe damage to body systems?
The stigma of type 2 diabetes – why are we afraid to talk about it and people who have it are often afraid to admit it and therefore take care of it?
Why does the National Institute for Health spend 181% more money on HIV/AIDS research than Diabetes research (1035 mil for diabetes, 2913 mil on HIV) when there are 13.4 times the number of diabetics in the US? (20.8 million americans with diabetes vs194,255 US HIV cases in 2005 according to the CDC.)
Wow, great question. Well let me do the reverse, I’ll tell you a couple of ways that diabetes affects society, and you can phrase the question for your paper, however appropriate.

1.) Because of our medical advances, diabetics live longer, yet dominate organ transplant lists. In the 70s, only a few kidney transplant patients were attributed to diabetics. Now there is a 400% increase, because diabetics are surviving. This has an unfortunate positive yet negative interpretation to it. Yet…

2.) … When a cure is identified, organ transplant lists will be reduced significantly!

3.) Diabetes is now recognized as a disease qualifying a student for special education. Before incorporation into the 504 Rehabilitation Act, diabetes was attributed to being a physical illness only. High and low blood sugars very much affect a students focus, concentration and learning ability. With finely tuned 504 plans, our diabetic children are more responsibly educated, and shaped into educated, functioning, successful members of society.
Why has the number of diabetics increased so markedly in the past few decades?!
So, correlating from that, “Is there something in the American diet/society contributing to the escalating outbreak of diabetes, particularly in children?”
