gestational diabetes test questions?
Im 26 weeks and just had mine done today. My next appointment isn’t until Dec 10th. If I fail the test, will they call me and tell me or wait until my next appointment? How long do they wait to call? What will they tell me on the phone?(keep in mine I dont go to a small doctors office, since Im a military dependent I go to the military hospital and alot of people also go there)
I failed my first one and they told me right then. I had to go back for the 3 hour test. And they called me and told me. If you don’t hear back from them call the nurse and ask. But, I would give them 24 hours. They called me back that afternoon. Its important to know.
They should call. But in the meantime, if you are worried, try to cut down on your processed sugars. So no pop, candy etc. Try to eat more veggies and protein. I have GD and it isn’t too big of a deal, most women can control it with diet. So if you are worried they won’t get back to you until the 10th, just eat better and avoid sugars. Good luck, I am sure you’ll pass.
If you did fail the glucose test they will probably call you and tell you come in sooner. Then they tell you how to eat or if you need to take insulin.
They will call you because it is kind of a serious matter. You need to see a nutritionist and you may have to get a glucose meter to check your sugars.
they should call you within 24 hours. this is one blood test that they tend to rush the results on because of how much of an impact it can have on the baby. they should tell you whether you passed or not and what your next steps will be should you fail.
I just had my Gestational Diabetes test so here is what happens at a ‘regular’ hospital: I failed my one hour glucose test (GT) so I got a call from the hospital asking me to come in for a 3 hour GTT or Glucose Tolerance Test. Different hospitals have different prerequisites for the 3 hour GTT. Some ask that you eat certain foods for 3 days and then come in for the test and some others, like my hospital, asked that I fast for 8 hours prior to the test and then go in first thing in the morning. The person that calls you should give you clear instructions on what you need to do before you go in. Again, all of this depends on whether or not you fail the first test. Also remember, that only 10-15% of women that fail the first test go on to fail the 3 hour GTT. Good luck!
they should call – but call them in 2-3 days for the results. they should tell you the results on the phone. ask them to mail you a copy of the results too – good for comparison.
If you fail, they will call and tell you. Then they will set up another appointment with you for the 3hr test. They usually call within a week. Like you said, a lot of people go there.
After my 3hr test, they called back about 2-3 days later and told me that my test results came back elevated. And that if I want, they can schedule a meeting with the nutritionist in their hospital. Which is what I did. I went and we went over my results and came up with a diet that I could go on.
I will have to admit, I did the exact opposite of what some of the women above did. I love sweets and pasta, in other words, I love my carbs. After the 3hr test, I had a hunch that I failed so I made a big chocolate cake with strawberry frosting and ate one slice a day. After they called me, my husband wouldn’t let me go near the cake any more and it all went to waste because he hates cake.
They’ll probably call only if you failed. If you’re really worried, give them a few days so the lab can process your sample and then check back.
