    You sound like a pretty classic ketosis prone T2 diabetic. You can find more about it on my blog: ketosisprone.blogspot.com or just google “atypical diabetes”.

    i was dx 4 months ago, in my 40′s told i had type 1 LADA, first Dx as type 2 then endo said i tested postive for the GAD 65 w/very low c-peptide. Was put on insulin; basal – bolus, kept going low, they kept lowering insulin doses. i STOPPED taking everything 3.5 months ago. My A1c has gone from 12% to 6.3% with NO meds. I’m very thin, healthy all my life, low BP, cholesterol. So, either I’m a skinny type 2 & again mis-diagnosed, as I was told I would be insulin dependent for life or honeymoonin

    She is a Ketosis Prone Type 2 Diabetic. This is a common type of diabetes amongst people of color in this country. There are an estimated 1,000,000 of them. They present with acute onset like type 1 but after withdrawal of insulin will actually be type 2.

    I can’t understand that people give everyone here that say you can cure type 1 diabetes with fasting and eating vegetables so many thumbs up! It’s actually quite insulting. It’s basically like saying the millions of people that REALLY have type 1 are sick because of their own doing. It’s easy to misdiagnose the type of diabetes if the doctor isnt very experienced in the field. There are multiple rare types that don’t or need very little insulin giving the impression of a cure upon a diet change.

  • giraffesarereal says:

    @lizhutson, your daughter was misdiagnosed. type 1 is brought on by an auto immune attack which kills all insulin producing cells in the pancreas. if your daughter had type one diabetes, her pancreas would not be producing any insulin today. no diet allows the body to survive without insulin.

    @hlefeld I stand by what I’ve previously commented 100% and am not impressed by PCDBSDTBTEPFMP ( pharmaceutical company driven bull shit designed to baffle the easily persuaded for maximum profit ) or ETTARIMPCP ( endless tests that always result in more pharmaceutical company profit ) .

  • hlefeld says:

    @1moreon
    I have always been fit and thin and a healthy eater. I am now a young adult female at a trim 126 lbs. I exercise daily and eat more organic vegetables (thank god for the farmer’s market) than almost any person I know. I check my sugar 8x/day and on a regimen of about 6 injections/day. My blood tests haven’t changed, I still have the GAD AB & I still don’t make insulin. IMHO, those who think they “cured” their T1 never had it, they had T2, LADA or celiac disease and were misdiagnosed.

  • hlefeld says:

    @1moreon
    I don’t recall the pharmaceutical industry having any effect on my blood tests. I am lucky that my dad is a type 1 diabetic. After having sudden severe symptoms for 3 weeks he started checking my sugar levels with an extra meter he had. I literally started eating only salads until the doc could see me and any random glucose check still put me well over 400, sometimes in the 700s…on a strict diet of salads and water. Please don’t belittle my condition that you clearly know little of.

  • hlefeld says:

    @1moreon
    A type 1 will have extremely low c-peptide in their blood (normal is 0.9 – 7.1) and extremely high GAD antibody levels (normal is less than 1.5). My c-peptide at Dx: abnormal, levels undetectable; my GAD AB at Dx: 131. Blood tests don’t lie. If you don’t know what these tests are for I suggest you do a little research. My c-peptide indicated I was making no insulin, my GAD indicated that my beta cells that produce insulin were destroyed by the GAD AB.

  • 1moreon says:

    @hlefeld Remember everything you know about diabetes was given to you for free by pharmaceutical / research companies that make billions from keeping people sick. Try fasting for three months with only raw vegetables as supplements and then come back and tell us your sugar levels.

    i’m T2 and i actually was very strict with my diet and medication. but then after about a year and half of poking myself and following my endo’s and dietitians plan’s i had enough of the low blood sugar attacks from the insulin. i decided to lower my dosage and my BG was lookin better. but then i chose to go insulin free by managing my diet my way…its cheaper and healthier to rid the shackles of insulin. i’ve lost weight, maintained my health, and over-all i’m quite proud i’m insulin free.

  • hlefeld says:

    Thank you DMClidol. I am also a T1 and I can assure the rest of you that you CAN’T switch from T1 toT2 and vice versa. Also, if you are a type 1, you MUST take insulin because you have no cells in your body that make it. There is no amount of diet or exercise that will cure T1. I could fast for an entire day but my blood sugar will still go up because the body’s natural hormones that work throughout the day. If anything, those people who stopped taking insulin are prob type 2 or LADA.

  • DMCIidol says:

    @lizhutson How could it be possible?
    I personally have T1D and theres no way that diabetes could be reversed when your pancrease’s insulin producing cells of lingerham are dead.
    Unless my cells grow back again, i will never be able to produce insulin by myself.

    @samgrossmith My diet plan basically consists of balance. I eat up to 60 carbs per meal and 15-30 for snacks. I eat a snack 2-3 times a day. I make sure to include protien, a carb (like bread, pasta, &chips) and a fruit or vegetable. I am big on protien and fiber-make sure that is in everything you eat. I also never eat anything that has high fructose corn syrup. Regardless of what the ads say, this is the worst ingreident for a diabetic to put in their bodie. :) let me know anything else u need

  • samgrossmith says:

    @AbqStephanie

    Hi, I have a few questions about this because I have been trying to control my sugars for a long time and have tried everything – literally everything – to do it, but nothing seems to work. Can you give me your diet plan? Or some tips?

  • AbqStephanie says:

    @lizhutson Still insulin free thank you! My bgs are about 80-120. My recent a1c was in the diabetic range, but so were my blood sugars. That was the kick in the butt that i needed to watch my diet and excercise more. (I kind of let myself go with the hassle of finals at school and all the pressure that goes with that…) But for the past month my levels are back to normal. I also posted a comment on your profile about the antibodies situation. Glad that Emma is still doing good! -Stephanie

  • AbqStephanie says:

    Hello everyone :) I haven’t commented for about 9 months, but let me inform you….
    I am a type one diabetic who has not taken a drop of insulin for almost 2 years now. Halle Berry is like me….she has not magically turned into a type two, she just puts herself in the “type two category”. I tell this to people sometimes to help them understand my situation better. I keep my blood sugar levels down by watching my diet and exercising, Just like lizhutson’s daughter. Any questions? Let me know.

  • lizhutson says:

    @AbqStephanie Hi – just wondered how it was going?? Are you still coping without insulin? I hope so. What actual carbs can you eat and what are your waking bgs? Emma’s are between 5 and 7 at the moment. All the best, Liz

  • lizhutson says:

    @whisperthetube PS the last couple of sentences aren’t aimed at you, by the way. They are aimed at the many who are just too bigoted or undisciplined to try new things. It is easy to take a pot shot at others – it’s a lot harder to get off your backside and do something about it!!

  • lizhutson says:

    @whisperthetube It’s a great dvd – very inspiring. You don’t have to go completely raw (would be too difficult for Emma as a 15 year old with a social life) but having a high proportion of raw does fast track progress, as we have discovered, first hand. No-one can diss it until they try it. If you REALLY want to try to cure Diabetes you would have the guts and determination to give it a shot before blasting poor Halle Berry and others who have done it. She/we are only trying to be helpful.

  • whisperthetube says:

    for the cure just search for this “Simply Raw: Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days”

  • lizhutson says:

    Emma’s diagnosis as T1 has been re-confirmed. Her consultant, even though he does not understand how we are achieving this and would like to be able to explain it away by the honeymoon period or some more unusual type of diabetes, he can’t. A honeymoon period does not last nearly two years

  • actrapide says:

    @lizhutson – Hey Liz, there is every chance of a cure some where down the road! But when it’ll come i have no idea! I challenge you to call your daughters diabetes nurse or consultant & ask 1: Is my daughter a type 1 or a type 2! If type 1 ask…is she off insulin temporarily due to a honey moon period! If shes is type 1 i already know the answer to that! (Yes! shes going through a honey moon period) My nephew who was diagnosed with type 1 in 2005 was taken off insulin for 8 months due to that
