Looking for natrual treaments for flea allergy AKA Flea Dermititus?
My 11yr old shih tzu has severe flea allergys, He used to get depo shots, once to twice a year to control the bad episodes. I called another vet and they told me they cause liver damage and failure. So i refuse to use them. My vet told me they were safe. So this vet told me these pills were safe to use and i have given him 2 days worth. I looked them up on the net and they cause many things. They cause bone damage and cartlige loss and my dog has luxating patellas already! They also cause diabetes and my dog has also had seizues from unknown cause. And just many horrible side effects. I wouldnt take them so neither is my dog. My dog means the world to me. Does anyone know any natural treatments for flea allergys? I am desperate!
i put on Natural cornstarch baby powder on my dogs and it keep the fleas off of her also put a flea collar in your vac bag and when u vac the fleas will attach to the collar and die and sprinkle baking soda on your carpet wait half and hour and vac and after u put on the baby powder give your dog a good brushing then rub raw oatmeal into the skin and brush away this will help with the dry skin flakes good luck and i hope this helps
your dog may have other alllergies too. natural remedies really don’t work and not worth wasting money on. do you keep advantage or revolution or frontline on your dog to keep the fleas from biting him and causing all this problem? the other thing you can do and it may cost a bit is have him tested for all allergies and then have the allergy shots given to him. same thing they do for humans. I’ve seen it do wonders for dogs. any shots or pills given to dogs to help with the reactions to itching can cause reactions. not sure what the pills were. i’ve seen some dogs live on antihistamines etc. your dog is 11 and already has health issues, so making him comfortable would be my number one task rather than worrying about side effects. your dog could develop diabetes or a seizure could do him in. it’s a shot in the dark and it sucks. but your dog is miserable, help him out if only to get a cortisone shot until you find some additional answers and a resolution. good luck
The obvious answer is to get rid of the fleas.

Not to sound like a Know-it-all but there is a very natural way of dealing with fleas. First your home and yard needs to be decontaminated. The best method for doing that is a little bug called a nematode. They are available in powered form in 16 oz plastic bottles. You know the old saying “Every dog has its fleas and each flea has his flea”, well the nematodes are the fleas flea. They bore into the flea and lay their eggs literally destroying the ability of the flea to lay eggs killing the flea at the same time.
Take the powder and lightly sprinkle it on the your carpeting, it will not hurt the carpet, then lightly spray your carpet with a fine mist of water. Don’t walk on the carpet yourself until it is dry. It is ok to let the dogs walk on it. Then do the same to your whole yard. It will be about a week but the fleas will be gone.
The nematodes will become dormat when there is no food but when there is food they multiply profusely, then will go dormat again.
The dog needs to be fully defleaed at the same time. The best method I have found to do that naturally, is to use a combination of Avon Skin-So-Soft (original formula not the scented stuff) and mild shampo (J&J Baby Shampoo works best). After having used regular mild shampoo to clean the dog, bathe your dog again using the SSS, putting a full 16 oz bottle in the bath tub full of warm water. Just soak your dog very throughly. Do Not dry your dog off. Take it straight outside and let him dry off naturally. Of course don’t let him role in the dirt etc. This will take about an hour to do but is the best overall method.
The SSS will stay on his coat and act as a conditioner as well as be a deterant to the fleas. The SSS is a natural mineral oil and will help with your dogs skin irratation from the flea bits and will kill any left over fleas and eggs from the shampoo cleaning.
Best wishes in your project. Fleas are a big problem everywhere I have ever lived and this was the best way to get rid of them
