Question about diabetes and insulin consumption?
I’ve heard that people who have diabetes can GO FOR MONTHS WITHOUT TAKING ANY INSULIN if they have been controlling their glucose levels up to that point keeping it at a normal level WITHOUT DYING.
ok, but for how long can you go without any taking any insulin if you have type 1?
You’ve heard wrong!! Type 1 diabetes HAS to be controlled by insulin as the pancreas has stopped producing insulin, there is no way their glucose levels will be normal without taking insulin, whoever has said this could potentially kill people by saying that. Type 2 diabetes can be controlled by diet alone, maybe that is where you are getting confused
Some type 1 diabetics live for years on very little insulin – some as little as two injections per week. But within ten years or so, they are likely to have severe side-effects. These include poor vision and blindness, neuropathy in the legs causing numbness and ulceration, heart disease and kidney failure. As well as the more short-term effects of high blood sugar – weight loos, tiredness, and generally feeling very unwell.
It is not safe for diabetics to skip insulin injections. If you want to live to a good age, it’s very important to take insulin as recommended, every day. Keeping your blood sugar low is the only way to keep healthy; and if you skip even one injection, your blood glucose will rise.
Type 1, no insullin at all, it’s about 3 days i think before hyperglycemia becomes too bad.
The people you’ve heard about have diet controlled type 2, which means their pancreas can still produce some insulin, so they simply eat less sugary foods, and the pancreas can cope with that amount.
If you have type 1, like me, you have it for the rest of your life and need regular injections.
Much better than loosing teeth, eyes, or god forbid, feet.
You heard wrong. Type 2s can control themselves (usually) with diet and exercise but Type 1s cannot. We need insulin to keep our blood glucose down and even missing one injection will cause our levels to rise dramatically. Whoever made the comment about not taking insulin for months was not at all educated in how diabetes works and how it affects the body.
Type 1 people will die within a week of quitting their insulin injections.
Type 2 people on insulin may be able to lose some weight, give up ALL carb foods, and get by for months without any medications at all.
But the losing of weight while injecting is a no win thing. It ain’t about to happen!! So forget that!
Giving up all carb foods means you are only eating meats with no fruits or veggies. Very bad food choices!
