Child Diabetes Question – need help quick!?

I invited several of my daughter’s friends (ages 3-4) from her daycare to a luau party – the parents of a playmate my daughter particularly likes have sent the RSVP card saying their coming… then, out of the blue, my 3 year old says Mommy, he pokes his finger and makes it bleed. I said Honey why would he do that? She said to check his blood sugar. The fact that she knows this means obviously that she has seen / heard of him doing this and that it’s important.

Therefore, my questions – what suggestions do you have for a menu that would be appropriate for a luau where a child has diabetes? Any recipes? Suggestions? Should I call the mom and ask – (not wanting them to feel akward) I really know my daughter likes this playmate and want him to feel welcome and not left out of “treats” … Thanks
