Insidermedicine In Depth – November 23, 2010 – Resistance, Aerobic Exercise for Diabetics
Combining resistance training with aerobic exercise is more beneficial than either type of exercise alone for individuals with type 2 diabetes, according to research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. If you have type 2 diabetes, exercising regularly can help you: • Improve the way your body uses insulin • Lower your blood pressure • Reduce your risk of developing heart disease Researchers from Louisiana State University randomly assigned over 250 adults with type 2 diabetes who did not exercise routinely to one of three exercise groups or to a non-exercise group, which acted as a comparison group. In one of the exercise groups, the participants engaged in resistance training three days a week. In another, they engaged in aerobic exercise such that they burned 12 kcal/kg every week. In the third, they engaged in resistance training twice a week and burned 10 kcal/kg through aerobic exercise every week. Measurements of hemoglobic A1c, an indicator of diabetes control, improved significantly among those in the combined exercise group but not in the resistance training or aerobic exercise groups, compared with the non-exercisers. In addition, only those in the combined exercise group saw significant improvements in their maximum oxygen consumption, an indicator of overall fitness level, compared with the comparison group. Finally, both those in the combined exercise group and the resistance training group lost more body fat than those in the …

Gastric bypass weight loss for Diabetics / Diabetes by Roca Labs
Can I use it if I’m diabetic? RocaLabs Natural Gastric Bypass Formula is safe for those with diabetes, and many diabetics have used it successfully to control their appetites and reach their desired weight. Additionally, although it is not a treatment for diabetes, the formula can have several positive side effects for sufferers. A healthy diet is crucial for both type 1 and type 2 diabetics, and regular mealtimes are important for many as well. The formula helps you achieve this by filling all but 20 percent of your stomach, giving you a natural sensation of fullness, and forcing you to eat 50 percent less. The powerful ingredient Beta-Glucan also helps eliminate cravings for sweets and snacks. Once you’re free from these urges, you can eat healthier foods in smaller portions, and eat at set times, without snacking in between. Furthermore, when you reach and maintain a healthy weight, this helps keep insulin working correctly in your body. This also significantly lowers the risk for type 2 diabetes – over 85 percent of those diagnosed with type 2 are overweight. The formula also benefits diabetics with its high level of fiber, which research has been shown to be helpful for balancing blood sugar levels. According to the FDA and the American Diabetes Association, it too may also lower the risk for type 2 diabetes. The natural ingredient Beta-Glucan has been shown in multiple studies to be especially valuable for managing diabetes. It balances blood sugar levels, and …

Nanotechnology to end insulin injections for diabetics
Insulin injections may soon be a thing of the past for diabetics thanks to nano-technology. At UCSF Professor of bioengineering, Tejal Desai, implants millions of pancreatic cells that secrete insulin into tiny capsules that can be implanted into the body in an effort to create an artificial pancreas. When blood sugar flows inside the capsule, it stimulates the cells to produce insulin to control sugar levels. The device has nano pores, pores so small that the body’s antibodies cannot get in to attack the cells, but large enough that the insulin can flow out and into the body.
