Why do so many little pre teen girls WANT diabetes? Is it because of the Jonas brothers?

It’s come to my attention that alot of girls, ages 10-14 want to make themselves get diabetes.

(I’ve seen it at the day care I work at, the school I volunteer at, and in questions on this website.)

Now I know that one of the jonas brothers has diabetes, do you think that’s why? because they want to have something in common with him?

I have many symptoms of Diabetes. Can someone please help me with a few questions I have about diabetes?

Recently, I have been experiencing some symptoms of diabetes, my biggest symptoms being increased hunger and thirst, increased urination, cold/tingling hands and feet, fatigue, and dizziness. My grandfather had diabetes, and so did his brothers and sisters (I am not sure about his parents), but as far as we know no one else in my family has the condition. Lately I have been so tired and dizzy that my daily life has been affected- (I tried to go shopping and only made it for about a half an hour). Although (I’m embarrassed to admit) I do tend to eat pretty unhealthily, I am at a normal weight, with a 22.6 BMI. (It is also strange as I have been so hungry I’ve been eating about double what I normally do, maybe even 4,000 calories a day, and it seems like I’ve almost lost weight.. Very strange.)

It basically feels like no matter how much I eat or drink, my body absorbs no energy from the food. I feel famished, shaky, dizzy all the time, even after drinking three water bottles and eating a huge buffet meal.

Does diabetes sound logical? Is there anything else that my symptoms could be from? I will ask the doctor of course, but is there anything else pops into your mind?

Here are where I need answers- My doctor is not available until next Wednesday. Will I be okay waiting until then? In the meantime, is there anything I can do to keep these symptoms at bay until my appointment? How exactly do they test for diabetes? Do they just do a finger prick for blood or do they actually draw a vile of blood? The reason I ask is because the latter terrifies me. And honestly, I’m not sure if I could stay conscious.. I am so lightheaded everyday, and that’s when all of my blood is in my body!

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me.. I really appreciate it and hopefully I’ll feel better soon!

Many questions about gestational diabetes.?

Can a woman get gestational diabetes early on in pregnancy? I am 17 weeks pregnant and already diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I found out really early at like 7 or 8 weeks. my numbers aren’t really high just slightly above the normal but they think I may have had diabetes before hand which I think is odd because I never had a problem before with blood sugar levels. I had a 3 hour glucose tolerance test done when I was about 11 weeks along and only one number was out of wack which was an hour after they made me take the glucola drink. This is such a hard thing for me to deal with, I work as a waitress full time and don’t always get a chance to eat my meals and snacks when needed. I have a docs note about needing a break during my shift but yesterday my jerk of a boss said no even though I had a note and my doc said i have to eat around the same time each day. any advice about all of this would be wonderful my main concern is can a woman get gestational diabetes early on? Thanks!
I’m loving the helpful answers so far. I am doing my best to watch my carbs but being a carb lover it’s so difficult but I’m managing. I’m still eating my favorite foods but watching how much of it I put into my mouth. It sucks that what I can eat lots of I don’t really eat alot of…I don’t eat red meats only chicken and eggs make me sick, the only veggies I love are corn, carrots and potatoes. I think I’d win the award for pickiest eater alive. Been this way since I was a toddler. I don’t know if it’s a texture problem or my tastebuds are odd but it took me forever to chew a piece of pork or beef when my mom cooked it for me as a kid. any diet tips also?
Thanks shootingstar, hearing that I’m not the only one diagnosed early is such a wonderful relief! I told my general manager about the whole ordeal and he looked pretty upset and told me that I have a doc. note and there was no reason to tell me no and I believe one of my fellow servers yelled at my non caring boss. Thank god he’s on vacation for the next week!

Diabetes Carb Choice Question: How many carb choices is a baked potato?

A friend and I are in disagreement. He says a baked potato is 1 carb choice. I say it is more, I even saw 1 example that a 1/2 large baked potato is 2 carb choices. What is the correct answer. His source is a diabetes education class 5 years ago and mine is from 1 web site.
