mum just found out she had diabetes, 48 yrs 200lb, 5’3. diet plans please? needs to loose 80-90lb?
note, my mum has never been skinny skinny before and if she has that was way before she had us kids! but I really want my mum to be healthy. doc said her blood level was 500, and she didnt know how it got like that since she didnt eat much sweets. but I think its because her main diet has to do with carbs. she’s african and like the main diet is like carbs carbs carbs, starchy carbs, rice, pounded yams if you know what those are, potatoes, Amala…does she need to be on the atkins diet? she’s not at the stage where she needs to inject herself with insulins and I dont want her getting to that stage. can you inform me about diabetes? will it be really hard for her to loose weight? does she just need to avoid alot of carbs? can she eat fruits? will the atkins diet be effective here? if not what will? what wont be effective? what are myths about diabetes?

I have many symptoms of Diabetes. Can someone please help me with a few questions I have about diabetes?
Recently, I have been experiencing some symptoms of diabetes, my biggest symptoms being increased hunger and thirst, increased urination, cold/tingling hands and feet, fatigue, and dizziness. My grandfather had diabetes, and so did his brothers and sisters (I am not sure about his parents), but as far as we know no one else in my family has the condition. Lately I have been so tired and dizzy that my daily life has been affected- (I tried to go shopping and only made it for about a half an hour). Although (I’m embarrassed to admit) I do tend to eat pretty unhealthily, I am at a normal weight, with a 22.6 BMI. (It is also strange as I have been so hungry I’ve been eating about double what I normally do, maybe even 4,000 calories a day, and it seems like I’ve almost lost weight.. Very strange.)
It basically feels like no matter how much I eat or drink, my body absorbs no energy from the food. I feel famished, shaky, dizzy all the time, even after drinking three water bottles and eating a huge buffet meal.
Does diabetes sound logical? Is there anything else that my symptoms could be from? I will ask the doctor of course, but is there anything else pops into your mind?
Here are where I need answers- My doctor is not available until next Wednesday. Will I be okay waiting until then? In the meantime, is there anything I can do to keep these symptoms at bay until my appointment? How exactly do they test for diabetes? Do they just do a finger prick for blood or do they actually draw a vile of blood? The reason I ask is because the latter terrifies me. And honestly, I’m not sure if I could stay conscious.. I am so lightheaded everyday, and that’s when all of my blood is in my body!
Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me.. I really appreciate it and hopefully I’ll feel better soon!

Whenever I stand up, I get light headed and lose focus, Meaning I have to stand still & Close my eyes (This lasts for about 10 seconds & My mum says it might be to do with low blood pressure???)

will you please answer my type 1 diabetes/vacation questions ?
Hey there, PLEASE read :
im a sophomore in HS and i was recently diagnosed with type 1 (juvenile) diabetes about 2 and a 1/2 months ago. ANd now it’s my spring break and we are flying to orlando, florida tomorrow for a week and i haven’t been on vacation yet since i was diagnosed. Where i live, i havent had a chance to experiment with being active outside during warm weather to see how my blood sugar reacts.
My problem is that i’m not sure what i should do different in FL because its going to be an average of 80 degrees every day and we will be going to universal studios a couple times and doing lots of walking there, probably.
I don’t have a pump yet so i will have to carry a bag with me to the park with all my supplies in it.
PLEASE PLEASE give me some tips if you have any about vacation for the first time ! (:

Also, i’m really scared that i’m going to go blind or like have to have my leg amputated when i’m older ): ): any tips for new diabetics are appreciated
