New Type 2 Drug Could Improve Blood Glucose Control For Some People With Diabetes
A new oral drug for Type 2 diabetes, dapagliflozin, has been identified as potentially helpful for people who have problems controlling blood glucose levels just using metformin. In a study of 534 people by researchers at Aston University in Birmingham, when the drug was used in combination with metformin it was found to improve blood glucose control and lower bodyweight, acting independently of …
Some questions about Gestational Diabetes.?
I’m 26 weeks tomorrow. Yesterday I found out that I failed my one-hour glucose test and am scheduled for a three-hour test next week. I’m a little worried and am already trying to make changes to my diet that I know will help if I am indeed diabetic. There are some things I’d like to know in advance, however, from your experiences.
1. Will I need to start seeing a high-risk doctor? Will this be at the recommendation of my OB?
2. Is there still a chance that I will pass the second test, even though I failed the first?
3. I know that having GD increases your risk for having a bigger baby and consequently having trouble during delivery. How common are other complications related to GD, especially those that would affect the baby?
Thanks for all answers.
Thanks so far…and I am worried because I do have a family history of type 2 diabetes (both my mom and dad have it). I know that may or may not affect my risk for gestational diabetes, but I’m just prone to worrying I guess. Thanks for everyone’s reassurance.

My mom has diabetes, and I have some questions?
So my mom has diabetes, and she has had it for a while. Almost a year… and with the bad economy, we JUST got health insurance like a week ago, so she’s off drinking and smoking and everything, plus she has a strict diet and everything. Since I want to help her I’m going on the diabetes diet too. (which sucks, because she’s pretty much only allowed to drink water, and I hate water, and I also hate veggies, lol) I’ve already started to lose weight (mind you I weigh 108 lbs, and I’m a 5’5″ female) and I’ve lost 4 lbs. I dont like that, becuase I have to keep up my weight. I CANT stop the diet, so I dont want that bull. Another question, how likely am I to getting diabetes? I dont know what kind it is, but it’s a kind you can get genetically. Thanks.
I have some questions about type 1 diabetes….?
~What are the short term effects for type 1 diabetes?
~What are some of the treatment options for type 1 diabetes?

I have some food questions, for Diabetes type 2.?
Start off I’m in Britain.
My health is annoying at the moment, have hyperthyroidism and now been diagnosed (today) with Diabetes, type 2. They apparently come hand in hand. I have always been, I suppose, ignorant and never looked into diabetes and still not sure how to feel about having it.
I have some questions regarding what I can eat, as the ‘help sheet’ wasn’t so helpful.
The list below are things I’m not too sure about :
1. Low fat cheese spread, Like Philadelphia Spread.
2. Heinz Baked Beans
3. Pitta Bread. The bread used for kebabs.
4. Lasagna and Spaghetti.
And anything other than water and tea to drink.
Thank you for your time in reading this.
Omg you guys have been so great with the detailed information for me, thank you ever so much, I don’t think I could pick a best answer, all are so helpful and great!
Thanks again for all your support xx

DOCTORS and/or SMART PEOPLE —> I have some questions about high-blood pressure and diabetes?
-Do you HAVE to have high blood pressure to be a diabetic? (Can you be a diabetic if your blood-pressure isn’t high?)
-If you go to a doctor, and they take a urine sample to check your kidneys… they would be able to tell if you had diabetes, right?
-Does diabetes have anything to do with high-blood pressure? Does it have anything to do with your kidneys?
-Could you tell if someone had diabetes from a urine sample… or do you NEED a blood sample?
It would be great if you could answer these questions. Thanks a lot!
